Carlos Tevez claims playing the Copa Libertadores final at the Santiago Bernabéu is ’embarrassing’ and slammed those responsible of ‘taking away players dreams’.
Dubbed by media as the biggest fixture in the 127-year history of Argentine football, the nation’s two biggest clubs were pitted together to renew their fierce rivalry within the South American equivalent of the Champions League.
And with global interest, a select group of River Plate fans caused the fixture to be postponed following an attack on the team bus that injured several Boca players.
FIFA swiftly intervened and announced the fixture would be played outside of the country, as the fans reputation of hooliganism resurfaced once again, which Tevez alludes to.
“It is a bit weird to play here but it is important for us to focus on how the game will be in Madrid,” Tevez told BBC World Service Sport.
“I think it is embarrassing for the people, not so much for the players. They took away our dream of playing the final in our country. It is important because it is still a final,” added former Manchester City and Manchester United striker Tevez.
“It is rare because of where it is going to be played, but it is still a Copa Libertadores final.”
Carlos Alberto Martínez Tevez is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Boca Juniors and the Argentina national team. His energy, skill and goal scoring rate have made him an indispensable player for his club sides throughout his career, in the eyes of fellow players and media alike.
