ITALIAN FOOTBALL: A LOOK AT THE SERIE A TEAM OF THE WEEK

 

Club football returned once again over the weekend and Europe’s top leagues welcomed back their stars who went to represent their various countries during the international break.


Leagues including the German Bundesliga, the French Ligue 1, the English Premier League, the Dutch Eredivisie, and the Italian Serie A all produced some entertaining club football over the weekend, as the race for both the League’s top scorer and title gongs remain up for grabs.

However, our focus is on the Italian Serie A. The top Forwards in the Italian League ensured they turned up for their different clubs and sealing victories in the process.

AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juventus frontliner Cristiano Ronaldo, and Inter Milan deadly striker Romelu Lukaku all performed greatly for their clubs and ended up on the winning side as a result. The trio made it to the team of the week after some outstanding performances they produced for their respective clubs.

Milan are still topping the table after a comprehensive Zlatan-inspired performance handed them a 3-1 victory against Napoli. Inter Milan were looking like they would lose the tie against Torino after trailing 0-2 at home. But Lukaku showed why he is the club’s frontman and helped record a remarkable 4-2 comeback win for his side. Elsewhere, Ronaldo scored a brace for Juventus as the Old Lady sealed a Much-needed win over Cagliari.

Here’s the team of the week:

Ivan Provedel – Spezia

Did well with some nice saves and good positioning. Also had amazing reflexes too.

Vlad Chiriches – Sassuolo

Sassuolo’s Romanian defender carried out his defensive duties pretty well and very impressively.

Matthijs De Ligt – Juventus

De Ligt sneaked back into the Juventus defense after some time out injured but played as nothing happened to him.

Francesco Acerbi – Lazio

Was very tidy at the back, contained Croton striker Simy and had an overall tremendous performance.

DomenicoBerardi – Sassuolo

Was sublime for his team and capped his performance with an assist.

Roberto Soriano – Bologna

Distributed the ball well and gave other attackers some chance to move freely.

 

Rodrigo De Paul – Udinese

Nearly got a brace by hitting the crossbar with a well-taken free kick but still scored the winner.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Roma

The Roma man is in a great goal-scoring form with a brace against Parma. Superb impact.

Romelu Lukaku – Inter

Scored two goals and recorded two assists as he helped his team come from 2-0 down to win 4-2.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – AC Milan

The former PSG and Man United forward showed why he remains one of the best around. Despite his age, he scored a brace to help his team.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Juventus

Ronaldo scored two goals in the first half of what was a welcomed victory at the club.
